My Changing Teaching Experience

My Changing Teaching Experience

I´ve been teaching for 20 years and during all this years many things have been changing in the way I teach.

One of these things are the teaching resources I´ve used. One example has to do with the listening activities that an English teacher does almost every class. I started by carrying a heavy radio with some cassettes. After a few years I had to buy a CD player and then all the listening tracks were in my pen drive, so I bought a netbook and a loudspeaker. Nowadays everything is in my Google Drive so I use my cellphone with smaller loudspeakers in class.

20 years ago, to give my classes I used to have a blackboard with chalk and as visual aids I used posters and flashcards. Nowadays I use my laptop, and a TV or overhead proyector and as visual aid, a video and a Power Point presentation, for example.

My students used to bring a dictionary and the English book to my classes, now they bring the cell phone and sometimes they bring the book or the may use a digital version.

Every end of term I used to sit with my calculator to get all the final marks of my students. Now SIU-Guarani, GoSchool or GEM do the job.
I think changing isn't a bad thing and it never was. Even my passion for teaching and learning has changed. It has grown and made deeper and deeper.
